The SALSA technique is a minimal invasive operation technique aimed at assembling the mounting of the dental implant in the collateral upper jaw. It is a microsurgical technique in which the mucosa of the maxillary sinus is removed via a microsurgical access with a size of 5 mm. An artificial antrum, the so-called subantral area, is created. Simultaneously, implants are inserted, a step-by-step augmentation of the subantral area is effected and the intervention is carried out under constant endoscopic control.

Sinus Lifting

Purpose of the sinus lifting
The reason for a sinus lifting operation lies in the insufficient vertical dimension of the upper jaw in the posterior area. This anatomic region is particularly critical for an implant insertion due to the rather improper bone structure, as the bone consists mainly of spongiosa.

After loss of teeth the bone gets resorbed in... read more >>

Results
In the following, the results of a 5-year-study from 2001 are presented. In this study, 118 sinus floor augmentations were carried out using the SALSA technique. This involved the insertion of 211 titanium screw-type implants in total. The survival probability of the implants was investigated with the help of the Kaplan-Meier survival... read more >>
